January

 

-     

Make sure that all of your players are returning in the Spring if you did not ask in November

-     Keep an eye out for the initial placement of teams sent to you by the boys or girls commissioner

 

February

 

-     Attend Annual Meeting

-     After initial review, make request, if necessary, for team placement in proper Div/Sec.

 

March

 

-     Start thinking about practices.  Spring season is soon here.

-     

Contact your team confirming what team they are on and provide them with the practice schedule.

-     

Inform your team about skills sessions offered in town.

-     

Help LYS with field preparation.  Field Day to be announced.

-     

Make sure you have all necessary equipment for coaching.

Coaching card

o     

Player’s cards for U18, U16, Div. 1 and 2 U14 and U12

o     

Balls

o     

First Aid

o     

Emergency contact sheet for team in bag (end of March beg. of April, sent to you by registrar of LYS)

o     

Copies of rosters to be given to the referee at games (end of March beginning of April.  Roster is sent to you by LYS registrar)

o     

Copies of the updated Guidebook distributed by BAYS

 

April

 

-     Start of Spring season

-     

Call or e-mail opposing coaches to confirm game time and field location

-     

Get in touch with the B.E.S.T. soccer coach and schedule for him/her to come to a few of your practices.

-     

Remind your team to go to the skills sessions offered by LYS

   

Confirm with your team that they are available during the weekends of Spring break.  Opposing teams DO NOT have to reschedule if you are going to be short players,but most do.  You have three weeks to make up the game or you will forfeit.

-      Confirm with your team that they are available Memorial Day weekend.  This game should be played prior to Memorial Day if it needs to be rescheduled.

-     

Remember to report your scores to the Section Captain each week.  Information can be found on the BAYS website.  The Section Captain from your Division/Section should have been in touch with you by now.

-     Remember to report scores

Don’t forget to play Memorial Day weekend game prior to Memorial Day if you are rescheduling.

 

June

 

-     

If you are coaching a MTOC eligible team remember to inform your team of the playoffs (usually at the end of the school year)

-     

If you are in Division 3 or 4 consider playing your team in the President’s Cup.  See BAYS website for details.

-     

Try-outs for certain age groups take place.

-     

Teams are put together and submitted to BAYS for placement

-      

Ask your team if they plan on playing the next season. (This helps put teams together knowing who intends on playing)

-      

Coaches are sought out for new 3rd grade travel teams

 

July

 

-     Enjoy your summer

 

August

 

-     Keep a lookout for the preliminary placement of teams sent to you by the boys/girls commissioner

-     

Make requests for placement change, if necessary

-     

Keep an eye out for the roster (sent to you by the LYS registrar)

-     

If you are a new coach, get a coach’s card from the LYS registrar

-     

If you are a new coach, get an equipment bag from the LYS equipment manager

-     

All coach’s get a sticker for your coach’s card for the current year

-     

Contact your team and start planning practices

 

September

 

-     

Start of Fall season (non-trophy season)

-     

Contact opposing coaches and confirm game times and field location

-     

Make copies of your roster for games (2 need to go to referee)

-     

Remember to have your emergency contact information sheet for your team with you at practices and games

-     

Check over your equipment

o     

Enough balls?

o     

Enough ice packs?

o     

Have a First Aid kit?

-     

Remember to report your game scores to your Section Captain.  He/she should have contacted you by now.  You can obtain that information on the BAYS website

Contact B.E.S.T. soccer coach and arrange for him/her to attend some of your practices

Remind your team of skills sessions offered by LYS
